India and Afghanistan have set a date at Bengaluru in what will be the first test match the ‘Afghans’ ever play and looking at their current form and the hype around them, by no means will this be a low key contest. Having said that, there is no doubt that India will start as clear favorites but if the Afghans to manage to pull this one off- It would certainly be a story they will tell their Grand- Children.
Afghanistan Cricket has grown leaps and bounds in the recent past and as a result, they are no more branded as an associate nation, thanks to the BCCI who has always helped them financially and also by providing them space to practice in Nodia which is considered as their home ground.
While the Afghans don’t have any previous test match baggage, even though they don’t start as favorites, the Indians will have more backend problems to solve based on proof of concept. Let’s have a look at 5 of these problems.
1. The Opening Combination
The BCCI recently mentioned that Murali Vijay is a very important player for them during their upcoming tour of England. Considering this is the last test match Vijay will play before England, he certainly seems like a sure- starter in the first test match. Having said that, who will partner him? Will it be the in-form KL Rahul or will it be Shikhar Dhawan who is officially their first choice opener?
