For those who still don’t know, there is a possibility that Jofra Archer might apply his trade for the England Cricket Team in the ICC World Cup 2019.
As a matter of a fact/ anyone living permanently in England for more than 3 years is eligible to represent the country in International Sport. The rule said 5 years initially only to be changed to 3 years recently which has increased Archer’s chances for making it to the showpiece event in June.
While the form he is in at the moment he must walk into the England side and the selectors have also decided to give him an opportunity during England’s upcoming ODI series against Ireland and Pakistan. While this sounds quite good if you’re an England Cricket fan considering winning the World Cup is always the top priority, Chris Woakes from England has made a statement which is understandable but small-hearted at the same time.
In a recent Interview, Woakes quoted that he does not feel it would be morally fair if Archer would be included in the team in place of one of his mates but at the same time, it’s the nature of International sport. He further added that apart from a personal level, he would also not like to see his mates miss out considering they all have been a close-knit group since the last 2-3 years.
Having said that, Woakes was also willing to take it sportingly and admitted that with Archer coming in, everyone will be on their toes trying to put their best foot forward with the competition increasing ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019.
