The 5th highest run scorer of the Ranji Trophy, Hanuma Vihari was selected in the playing XI over India’s second man to hit a triple-century in Test Cricket- Karun Nair. This certainly did not go down too well with Gavaskar who lashed out at the Indian team management for overlooking the Jodhpur born, Karnataka based, Karun Nair.
Gavaskar stated that he was surprised why they would not select someone like a Nair considering he has been waiting for his chance ever since. He also reminded everyone that Nair might have failed in a few games but even with just 6 games under his belt, he managed to do something only Virender Sehwag did before him.
Yes, Gavaskar did remember that Nair failed miserably before the after that triple century but truly believed that he deserved a longer run which the team has never given him. He also went on to state that he might not be the kind of player which the management likes owing to his calm attitude, a bit like Rahane who Gavaskar compared him too.
The former right-handed batsman also felt that Karun Nair has every right to ask the captain and the management why they did not play him. On the other hand, he also wished Hanuma Vihari all the luck and hoped that he could get a big score on his debut.
